Charity Fundraising

Details about fundraising

Each year we support two charities voted for by our members. Money is raised primarily through our weekly meat and tote raffles, but throughout the year we also hold numerous charity events. Please check our entertainment page for upcoming events.

Our Chosen Charities

Hospice in the Weald provides care for patients with a terminal illness, and those important to them, in West Kent and Northern East Sussex.

Care is provided across our Services and is completely free of charge. We are there 24 hours a day to help, support and care for patients with an illness where a cure is no longer possible, and for patients who will at some stage die from their illness (you may hear this referred to as “palliative care”).

The Restoration of Marden Bells

The current peal of 8 bells of Marden church have been an integral part of village life for over 100 years, ringing for Sunday services and pastoral offices, as well as national events of significance.
The current bells were installed by Alfred Bowell in 1909 and have had no significant maintenance work done to them since their installation. Most of the fittings: clappers, gudgeons and bearings, wheel rims, pulleys and sliders are wooden and are in urgent need of replacing and updating. Without this work the bells will cease to be ringable. The restoration would enable the bells to be easily rung by all age groups, especially children and older people.
The restoration will be a three month project and involve removing the bells from the tower, transporting them to a bell foundry where they will be quarter-turned and re-drilled to have new headstocks and clappers fitted. In parallel, new wheels, pulleys and other fittings will be made. Finally, when the bells return, they will be raised back into the tower and reinstalled.
The project will cost approximately £60,000.00 and we need to raise this by October 2023 so the bells can continue to ring for another 100 years.
